App Store: other substitute browsers available

Yesterday, fueled by a misguided optimism, and bounces on the Web on the news that App Store were approved alternative browsers and competitors Safari Mobile. In fact, this is not the case. It is not reversed, nor a sudden change in the controversial policy of approvals on the store software for iPhone. Indeed, studying the best four applications that have been shouting to the miracle (Incognito, Edge Browser WebMate: Tabbed browser and ShakingWeb), we discover that they actually use all four of WebKit, the rendering engine of Safari, made available through a simple library of the SDK.

In other words, these applications are not real browser, but a kind of plug-in for Safari, as it merely exploits the technology by adding a few features not planned initially.

How then hoped to see Opera or Firefox on your iPod touch will have to think: App Store does not allow us to replicate functionality already provided by Apple, especially when these features give great visibility.
